Down in deepest North Wales with it's breath taking scenery of tall mountains, wild rivers and rocky outcrops, an area that is steeped in history with it's roots firmly anchored in a mysterious and intriguing past , a place renowned for it's legendry fire breathing dragons , brave Welsh prince's and a place where folklore abounds.
Say "O J" to most people and their reply would probably be that of a famous but not so honest American football player! If the very same question was asked Around the North Wales area the answer is quite likely to be O. J. Jones, the well known and well respected haulage company that has been successfully running for almost fifty years.
Founded in the picturesque town of Portmadog in 1962 the company soon became well established and now works out of
a well appointed commercial yard and workshops still based in Portmadog where the company is now able to store and supply a range of products from sand through to differing size aggregates and types to a large customer base throughout North Wales and the Northwest of England.
The company currently runs a well maintained fleet of sixteen mainly sleeper cab Scania and Volvo 8x4 tipper trucks that are instantly recognizable as they trundle along by their yellow and red company livery and adorned with chrome light bars. Amongst the fleet but by any stretch of your imagination not bringing up the rear is one 8x4 ERF, EC11 day cab tipper, which is the preferred choice of the business founder and now legendary Mr O J Jones himself. At seventy six this remarkable man is still behind the wheel and very much the driving force behind this dynamic family run company.
This is now a farther and son run business with Dewi Jones working daily along side his farther Owen, Dewi takes the helm of his option an FM12 sleeper cab Volvo, but by his own admission is first to point out that "the old man sets a
blistering work rate and still has the appetite for work that would normally be expected from a driver forty years his junior
and any of our drivers would admit that OJ is a hard act to follow" Dewi said " his time keeping is second to none, he still puts in a full working week and turns up on the yard at the weekends when we are on maintenance duties come rain, hail or shine, unbelievable"! O J himself is truly one of the industries character's, he is irrepressible and simply relishes hard work and the joys and at times like these the tribulations of owning and running this well known and respected haulage
company , even when asked to stop for this photo he quickly quirked "hurry up I've got work to do and I don't want any of those boys passing me" he surely must enter local folklore and simply put he is a legend in his own lifetime!
O J Jones & Son were recently awarded a sea defence contract that meant hauling large piece's of pure unforgivingWelsh granite of up to six tons in weight from the Tarmac quarry based at Minffordd over a seventy eight mile round trip to the sea defence scheme under construction at Tywyn Mid Wales. The correct choice of steel tipping body for such a task was essential, but for OJ and Dewi the choice was an easy one as they are well equated with Boweld Truck Bodies and our steel body range of models. Mucklite steel body, I am astounded at how well this particular body stands up to this most gruelling of work, yet we can still achieve a good payload if we move the trucks to lighter work duties". Dewi went on to say " we have used Boweld bodies for over twenty years and in my opinion they have proved themselves to be simply the best body you can buy, we have moved thousands of tons of rock armour material through our Mucklites and I can tell you tipping these lumps is a true test of any bodybuilder, we have trucks we bought with pre fitted bodies on them that are built by a leading UK body manufacturer that are supposed to master, well even though heavier than our Mucklite's they mastered nothing and give up the goat after just three months, they will now be replaced with Bowled Mucklites, awesome just awesome"! As ever OJ had the final say " we have Mucklites that we have used on several rock jobs that are over six years old and still going strong and still have resale value" then with rye smile added "don't say to much or them buggers at Boweld will be putting their price's up"!
The Mucklite body has been in production since 1998 and has proved to be an extremely successful product which was purposely designed to be a weight saving high strength steel body. Manufactured to our well proven monocoque weight saving design, one peice floor pan sections from 6mm thick 400HB wear resisting steel, under floor V runners from Domex 700MC and one peice side that incorporates the top channel and are formed from 4mm thick high tensile steel, when you add this high specification to our fully jig built and fully seam welded after fabrication procedure you are left with what is quite simply the best value for money steel muckshift body that we are proud to award a full three year warranty for your total peice of mind.
